Preconstruction: Design & Engineering

What is a ropes course, zip tour, or aerial adventure park? These vary greatly based on experience. To ensure that a project meets expectations, it is critical that a design phase is given a proper amount of time to establish expectations. Time spent designing can mean the difference between a successful project and a mediocre one.

We have found that the concept of what a ropes course or adventure park is varies greatly from person to person. For this reason we specialize in turning our clients visions into 3D conceptual models. This ensure that everyone has a shared mental model. From there it is simple process to develop any necessary blueprints or shop drawings.

Depending on the project, it may be necessary to bring in a variety of expertise. The contractor, structural engineer, soils engineer, arborist and others can influence the design and success of the project. We work with trusted specialists to make sure you get a project that’s well-planned and well-executed.

Construction & Installation

Once the plan and concept is understood it is time to turn your vision into reality. A successful project is defined as being on time, within budget and safe. The age old joke in construction is that clients can pick two of the three. Here are Helix we know how to collaborate so that all three can be achieved. Since we specialize in adventure construction we are continually improving our processes to keep within the schedule and reduce costs. With our background in ropes courses, awareness and safety are what we live by.

Inspection

The Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), requires a professional inspection to occur at least annually. Other types of inspections are acceptance inspections and periodic inspections. An acceptance inspection take place after any major installation or repair. Periodic inspections happen according to the manufacturer requirements - typically quarterly or monthly. Helix can fulfil all of your inspection needs.

Training & Certification

As with everything we do, there are associated risks. One of the best ways to minimize potential risks on the ropes course is to ensure that all facilitators or guides are properly trained and certified.

There are various level of certification. They range from Level 1, Level 2 and Course Manager with certifications in Site Specific, Low Only, High Only or Full. We hold a Full Level 1 each year (typically in May), contact us for more details or to schedule a site specific training.
